Description & Details

Communications Manager

Path Home empowers families with children to get back into housing and to stay there. Our programs work: 87% of families keep their housing long term. Programs include Outreach, Family Village Shelter, Rapid Re-Housing, Prevention, and Basic Income Guarantee. Annually, Path Home provides culturally competent, trauma-informed services to nearly 600 families.

Path Home believes that intentional, systematic racism and oppression are primary causes of homelessness, and we are working to dismantle systems of oppression within our own organization and the community as a whole. We serve a very diverse group of families, and our goal is to have a staff that reflects the diversity of our families.

Overview

This position will refine and execute Path Home’s communications strategy to deepen engagement with our community and attract new support for our mission. With an emphasis on education, this pivotal role helps build an engaged community of supporters who:

  1. Understand the systemic issues causing family homelessness,
  2. Recognize how their actions have a meaningful impact for local families, and
  3. Reflect the diversity of the people we serve.

To do this effectively, you will build trusting relationships with staff and the families we serve—strengthening understanding of our programs, increasing the flow of communication between teams, and gathering and telling stories ethically.

This is a hands-on role. While the Communications Manager leads strategy (particularly during the public phase of our capital campaign), you will also personally execute much of the day-to-day communications work. You’ll work closely with the development and leadership teams to set realistic priorities and focus on the highest-impact communications work.

This position is ideal for a strategic thinker who enjoys creating, producing, and moving work forward in a fast-paced environment. This role offers significant opportunity to shape systems, strategy, and the future direction of communications at Path Home.

Specific Job Duties

Communications & Capital Campaign Strategy

  • Lead the annual communications strategy and plan in partnership with the Executive Director and development team, translating strategy into actionable deliverables.
  • Serve as the communications lead for the public phase of the capital campaign (likely launched in 2027), shaping strategy and personally driving implementation.
  • Develop and produce capital campaign communications, including donor-facing materials, digital content, and storytelling.
  • Translate organizational goals into clear messaging priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Adjust plans in real time based on capacity, performance, and campaign needs.

Program & Project Management

  • Manage complex communications projects internally and externally.
    • Cultivate accountability on project teams to ensure deadlines and expectations are met.
    • Implement internal systems and shared documentation to ensure communications plans are clear and on schedule.
  • Create and execute communications for annual fundraising efforts and campaigns, including email, direct mail, and social media.
  • Balance long-term messaging strategy with day-to-day communications delivery.

Content Creation & Ethical Storytelling

  • Personally create a high volume of high-impact content, including emails, newsletters, invitations, videos, social posts, and impact reports.
  • Write clear, persuasive copy that inspires action across audiences.
  • Champion ethical storytelling practices while collecting, writing, and editing stories from our community.
  • Maintain and update brand guidelines, messaging decks, key stats, and story libraries.
  • Respond to internal communications requests and translate needs into clear, on-brand materials.

Brand Awareness & Education

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop new educational and thought leadership strategies.
  • Coordinate with contractors on PR and earned media, handling preparation and follow-through.
  • Plan, create, and publish strategic social media content; track performance and regularly engage with audiences.
  • Manage Path Home’s digital platforms, including website updates, SEO basics, and organizational profiles.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to think strategically and translate plans into clear, executable work.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with comfort managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including persuasive copy for fundraising and campaigns.
  • Experience creating content across formats (email, social, digital, and print).
  • Commitment to ethical storytelling and relationship-based collaboration.
  • Comfort working independently while partnering closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize, and maintain composure in fast-moving, campaign-driven environments.
  • Alignment with Path Home’s mission, values, and community-centered approach.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or fundraising, with demonstrated ownership of strategy and execution across multiple channels.
  • Proven experience leading communications for complex initiatives, campaigns, or organizational priorities from planning through implementation.
  • Strong design and production skills, with the ability to independently create polished materials using tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience managing timelines, workflows, and priorities across teams, with comfort making judgment calls in fast-moving environments.
  • Working knowledge of digital engagement strategies, including social media, email marketing, and website content management.
  • Experience using website and social media content management systems, email marketing platforms, and shared documentation systems.
  • Basic photography to support day-to-day content needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or leading communications for a capital campaign or large-scale fundraising initiative.
  • Familiarity with fundraising communications, donor engagement strategies, or community-centric fundraising principles.
  • Experience growing and engaging digital communities in mission-driven organizations.
  • Background in nonprofit communications, particularly within human services, housing, or related fields.
