Position Summary

The ED serves as the business leader whose primary responsibility is revenue generation for the non-profit organization. Working in close partnership with the Artistic Director and reporting directly to the Board of Directors (Board), the ED is responsible for the organization’s financial health, fundraising infrastructure, operational management, and community relations within the Portland metropolitan area.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Management & Governance

  • Operational Governance: Implement and update the chorus's administrative framework and necessary management policies.
  • Board Collaboration: Partner with the Board to create and execute the strategic plan, provide transparent financial reporting, support board committee development, and donor cultivation.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure adherence to Oregon 501(c)(3) regulations, labor laws, licensing, and local venue contracts.

Fundraising & Financial Operations

  • Revenue Generation:  Design and execute a diversified development plan encompassing individual giving, planned giving, major donors, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events; collaborate with the Board to set fundraising goals.
  • Donor Engagement and Stewardship: Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation representatives including developing and implementing stewardship strategies to ensure donor retention, satisfaction, and reactivation.
  • Grant Writing: Research, write, and manage local regional grants (such as the City of Portland Office of Arts and Culture), state grants (Oregon Arts Commission), and national funding.
  • Fiscal Oversight: Develop and manage the annual operating budget, oversee bookkeeping, monitor cash flow, and ensure timely financial auditing.
  • Earned Income: Maximize ticket sales across Portland concert venues, merchandise revenue, and specialized community runout performances.

Production, Marketing, & Administration

  • Concert Operations: Manage logistics for local concert seasons, including venue contracts, ticketing platforms, insurance, and front-of-house coordination.
  • Brand & Marketing: Oversee audience development campaigns including season ticket sales, local press releases, social media strategy, and regional community outreach.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervise staff, independent contractors (e.g. development assistants, graphic designers), and volunteer committees.

Community & Singer Relations

  • Mission Advocacy: Serve as a visible ambassador for the chorus within the local LGBTQ+ community, Portland's arts sector, and Pacific Northwest funding networks.
  • Chorus Support: Collaborate with elected chorus leadership to foster an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for all membership voices.
