Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation serves as the 501c3 sponsor for 13 Friends of the Library (FOL) in the FVRLibraries district. Our FOLs are the heart of our branches and communities and give their time, talent, and treasure to support the libraries they love.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the FOL Coordinator acts as liaison and advisor for the 13 Friends’ groups. The coordinator will provide direction, and guidance for each of these groups – centering the Foundation needs and requirements as sponsor, along with the unique goals and interests of each FOL.
This role relies heavily on proactive and effective communication, keen organization skills, and provides leadership for our volunteer groups. The FOL Coordinator duties require working an average of 20 hours per week with each week being a different schedule based on the FOL groups meeting that week.
This is a remote position with presence expected once a week for Foundation team meetings in our Vancouver office, in addition to travelling to each group once per month.
Key responsibilities include:
- Communication and Travel: Attend monthly meetings with 13 Friends groups. This includes time to prepare for meetings, drive and attend, and any follow up after meetings. Each group meets monthly - over the course of each month this role will attend 13 meetings in person with 3-4 meetings per week. (see appendix for current FOL schedule)
- Collaboration and Partnership: encourage FOL to support and engage with each other through work groups focusing on bookstore groups, membership groups, or other areas where shared best practices can reduce duplication and strengthen outcomes.
- Compliance: Ensure consistent procedures between FOL systems for secure and confidential record-keeping, membership/gift/retail processing, processes for annual financial audit, and seek opportunities to provide tools or processes to innovate to lessen the burdens on volunteers so they can have more meaningful service.
- Team Leadership: Supervise volunteers, develop onboarding support for officers, help them set their group’s goals, and foster a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
- Foundation Liaison: Serve as a representative of the Foundation’s mission and promote the vision and strategies set forth by the Executive Director.
- Other related duties as assigned.
