Meals on Wheels People is seeking a Director of Development to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for Meals on Wheels People’s fundraising programs and philanthropic revenue initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), this role leads annual, mid-level, major gift, and institutional fundraising efforts while overseeing donor database management, gift processing, donor stewardship, reporting, and prospect research. The Director of Development manages a portfolio of approximately 25-40 major donors and prospects and partners closely with the CDO, Director of Marketing & Communications, and Senior Individual Giving Manager to strengthen donor relationships, grow philanthropic support, and advance a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

• Oversee stewardship, data management, annual giving, and grants staff and programs.
• Create, maintain, and implement strategies and plans for special and capital campaigns.
• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies that support organizational revenue goals and long-term sustainability.
• Partner with the CDO to establish annual and multi-year fundraising plans, goals, and performance metrics.
• Monitor and evaluate fundraising performance, pipeline activity, and donor engagement outcomes, making adjustments as needed to achieve revenue goals.
• Promote a culture of philanthropy, donor-centered fundraising, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
• Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 25-40 major gift prospects and donors through strategic identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and relationship management.
• Partner with the CDO and Individual Giving Manager on major gift strategy, prospect development, donor engagement planning, and solicitation opportunities.
• Ensure timely and meaningful gift processing, receipting, acknowledgment, and stewardship activities that strengthen donor relationships and increase philanthropic support.
• Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop and implement integrated fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and stewardship strategies.
• Provide oversight and support for foundation, corporate, and government grant programs, while monitoring funding opportunities to maintain a healthy grants pipeline.
• Oversee donor database management and ensure procedures are in place to maintain accurate donor records, timely gift acknowledgment, and compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies.
• Represent Meals on Wheels People with donors, community partners, funders, and other external stakeholders as appropriate.
• Participate in required meetings, trainings, and organizational initiatives.
• Support the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of Meals on Wheels People.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Knowledge

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of directly related professional experience and demonstrated success in fundraising, development, or nonprofit advancement.
• Working knowledge of planned giving vehicles, including bequests, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, and charitable trusts

Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including experience with advancement services, capital campaigns, and board engagement.
• Minimum of 3 years of people management experience, including hiring, coaching, employee development, and performance management.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse communities, stakeholders, and partners.
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge required; experience with project management and volunteer management platforms preferred.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends, as needed.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
